Some time ago, I sat back and watched a groom have the "Here Comes the Bride" music replayed three times to only find out that his beautiful bride had changed her mind. It seems like this kind of stuff only happens in the movies or on television. In reality, I think most of us have known someone who had to face the music that their wedding day was actually their worst day.
Giving back the gifts, canceling the caters, returning the tuxedos, etc., who dreams of this ever happening to them? I certainly can't imagine this in my frame of thinking. To have to encounter something like this will most assuredly change a person and create a deep layered scar.
As I watched his father have to comfort his mother as she burst out in tears having to listen to her son apologize to the guests, the room was utterly silent. Now in this same audience were tons of single, beautiful Christ filled ladies who would have loved to marry him. The elephant in the room appeared in form of a question, "How could she leave this man at the altar?"
For months, the former groom was nonexistent to those who were close to him. It was clear that something was going on with him, but no one knew exactly what that was. Can I tell you that he did eventually emerge much differently. As his post wedding story began to spread, he said that he had forgiven his former bride and matter of fact, he had thanked her for her courage. What? How do you thank someone for dumping you at the altar?
Long story short, he shared his testimony of how he immediately sought out godly counsel, and within the first week of being dumped at his wedding, God had revealed to him that she wasn't the one. At first he thought maybe he was telling himself that as a coping mechanism, but as time went on, the former bride shared with him some choices she had made during their courtship.
So the wedding day that didn't happen on the worst day of his life turned out to be a day of undiscovered wisdom. He's still single but in a dating relationship, serving Christ, and his mom is all smiles! Trust that God knows what He is doing even when it doesn't make sense.
