I can't remember where I got this photo, but I really love it. Those fingers underneath the door trying to locate you is a great illustration of the single parent journey. There are days, especially when children are much younger, that as single parents you may feel overwhelmed. I would venture to say that even as they become teenagers into adulthood, the single parent journey still has its stressful times.
My encouragement to all the single parents, whether you are a single dad or mom, is to just keep moving forward. If no one has told you this in a while, you are doing a great job!! In the middle of all the juggling, don't forget to enjoy your children. They actually do grow up fast.
It's no secret that you will have times that you wish you could just have a moment to breathe. The thing to remember with this is that you are not the only one to feel this way, and matter of fact, it's okay to feel this way as an indicator that its time to recharge your batteries. The children can't take care of themselves the way you can, so you have to take time to care for yourself. Even when you fly on a plane, they tell you in the event of an emergency to secure your mask first before helping others. As a parent that is a little bit challenging mentally, but intellectually it does make sense.
Parents in general but particularly single parents are constantly thinking of the next task. You know in the back of your head that if you don't do it, no one will. You are single-handedly carrying the full load of life, and you have children that are counting on you. Yes, this can be a little much when you think about it, but God has equipped you to rise to the occasion. Learn to take each task in small doses, so that you don't become that single parent swallowing a very bitter pill.
If only you could see yourself as God sees you. Think about that for a minute--your Heavenly Father sees what you are doing with you children, and He is with you even when you don't think you feel His presence. Among the million things that you are already responsible to do each day, He expects you to carve out time to plant His word in their hearts. Your children are smart and they can see you getting overwhelmed sometimes, so isn't it wonderful to remind them that it's because of God that you are able to do what you do even when you don't want to do it. Have you ever stopped and thought about where you get all this strength to do all the things you are responsible for when you dead tired? I'm glad you asked. Your Heavenly Father is the one providing you with the supernatural strength that no vitamin can provide you. See it's okay to take a minute for yourself, because God will be with you for a lifetime. Enjoy the journey!
